Make it last

Your kit's crest, sponsor, name, number and sleeve patches are heat-applied, and the fabric is engineered to breathe. A little care keeps them looking new for years. Heat is the one thing that damages them — so the whole game is: keep it cool.

Do & Don't

Do

  • Turn it inside out before every wash
  • Use cold water and a gentle / delicate cycle
  • Use a mild liquid detergent
  • Wash with similar colours (dark with dark)
  • Hang dry in the shade and reshape while damp
  • Fasten any zips and close velcro first

Don't

  • Tumble dry — dryer heat cracks & peels badges and numbers
  • Use bleach or any whitening detergent
  • Use fabric softener — it clogs the fabric and lifts prints
  • Iron directly over the crest, sponsor, name, number or patches
  • Wring, twist or scrub the printed areas
  • Leave it soaking for long periods

Step by step

Before Turn the shirt inside out, close any zips and velcro, and wash it with similar colours. On the first wash, keep it separate — deep colours can bleed a little at first.

Wash Cold water, 30°C / 86°F max, on a gentle or delicate cycle with a mild detergent. Hand washing is even kinder. Skip the softener and never use bleach. Heat is what cracks heat-pressed badges and numbers and shrinks the fabric — so keep it cool.

Dry Air dry only. Hang it or lay it flat in the shade and smooth it back into shape while damp. Never put it in the dryer, and keep it out of direct sun (which fades the colours). No dryer = no cracked letters.

Iron You usually won't need to if you hang it damp. If you must: turn it inside out, use the lowest heat, and never touch the crest, sponsor, name, number or patches. Lay a thin cloth between the iron and the shirt, or steam lightly from a few inches away.

Fan vs Player

Fan version

The crest, sponsor and any name/number are heat-pressed on. These are the most heat-sensitive parts — cold wash and air dry are what stop them peeling over time.

Player version

Lighter, engineered "dry" fabric with heat-bonded trims. Same rules, just be extra gentle — the thinner fabric and bonded details dislike heat and hard wringing even more.

Sleeve patches and competition badges are heat-applied too — treat them like the numbers: no direct iron, no tumble dry.

One habit that doubles a kit's life: you don't need to wash it after every wear. Air it out on a hanger and only wash it when it actually needs it — fewer washes means the badges, numbers and colours stay crisp far longer.
